Hosting Update

11 September 2006

Social Change has been hard at work improving our web hosting services.

Some key improvements are:

  • New mail list server - A new generation mail list server is in place and most client's lists have been moved across from the old Emma system. The new "Mail Man" system is a much more modern up to date system with greatly improved reliability and flexibility.
  • Redundant web server - A redundant server has been set up to be on standby in case of failure of the main server. All sites on the main server are constantly being synchronised to the redundant server so that it can swing into action with minimal interruption to normal website services.
  • 24 x 7 monitoring - We've set up a 24 x 7 monitoring system on the main web server. This system will automatically detect a failure of the server or any client site and will alert a systems administrator. This will allow us to deal with any problems more proactively and will provide far greater reliability.

We hope that you see service improvements as result of this work. We'd be delighted to hear any feedback or questions you may have about any of these changes.
