Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards

The Local-e e-Mapping project won an award in the "'Environment and Community" category at the inaugural Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards on 25 November 2004. A joint effort between the NSW Local Government and Shires Association (LGSA), Social Change Online and Sinclair Knight Mertz, this project is the first of its kind to provide Web Map publishing capabilities to more than 50 local councils in regional and rural NSW.

The Awards are present by the Community Relations Commission. They recognise and promote excellence in working in a culturally diverse society.

The website was launched in January 2000 by the New South Wales Premier’s Department to assist communities in accessing information about each other and to strengthen community activities.

The site was developed by Social Change Online.

Local-e is the only Networking-the-Nation-funded Local Government Online Services Delivery program to win this award to date.

The web site was developed as part of a massive SCO-designed roll-out of web sites for 110 Councils around NSW. That project was for the NSW Local Government and Shires Associations Local-e project, funded by the Commonwealth Government's Networking the Nation program.
