Open Standards Compliance

Open Standards enable the sharing of information, the interoperability of systems, and the findability of information. Support for these standards has been a core requirement in the development of AIMS4.

Metadata standards

  • Dublin Core - internationally recognised, interoperable metadata standard
  • AGLS - Australian metadata standard
  • Social Change Online Standard - adopts mandatory fields from Dublin Core and AGLS and add fields relevant to client sectors

Technology standards

  • XML - Open standard for packaging data (W3C)
  • XML interfaces:
    • WFS (Web Feature Server) - lets AIMS4 communicate mapping and non-mapping information with other systems
    • OAI (Open Archives Initiative) - allows for content to be shared and queried
  • LDAP Compliant Client (Light-Weight Directory Access Protocols) - easily integrate your user management system with AIMS4
  • XHTML/HTML - open standard method for displaying web pages (W3C)
  • CSS - open standard for defining how a webpage should be styled (W3C)
  • RSS - allows for content to be syndicated and shared
  • SSL - provides secure website connection for online payments and other data exchange
