Welcome to our latest Newsletter. It's a busy time here at Social Change with work underway on many projects including the National Oceans Portal and the NSW State Emergency Service's new site. I am also delighted to announce that we have just launched our first Belgian-based website for the Migration Policy Group.

Feature: Usdaw - Union of Shop Distributive and Allied Workers

Usdaw
Usdaw, the United Kingdom's Union of Shop, Distributive, and Allied Workers has over 340,000 members. The Union came to Social Change Online in 2003 needing a complete redevelopment of their site.

When asked about the process of having their site built, Nicola Williams, Publications Officer of Usdaw, says it was "very very professional, found it absolutely superb, had very bad experience two years ago with another organisation and thought that the process always had to be complicated. Paul and his team were a breath of fresh air, delivered what we needed - a sustainable organising site. Paul completely understood what the union was about, what we wanted to achieve and how we need to interact with our members." learn more about this project's success.

Community Builders Project Makes Funding & Awards Programs More Accessible Online
Social Change Online has recently completed a project for the NSW Premier?s Department to make Funding & Awards projects more accessible online. There is a vast range of programs and awards that provide funding targeted at specific projects such as Capital Assistance programs and Rural Women?s Awards. With close to 150 programs from around 100 different funders listed, the current system had become unwieldy. A new site was proposed to bring funders and fundees together and form part of the award-winning Community Builders website. NSW Government agencies needed to be able to manage their programs themselves, and fundees needed to be able to search and find relevant information easily. more
SES Usability Testing Sessions
Can your target audience find information they require on your site quickly and painlessly? Social Change Online recently undertook Usability Testing for the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) as part of a requirements gathering process in the redevelopment of their website. Usability Testing is testing a proposed or existing website to see how usable it is: how easy it is to use and how well it meets the needs of the target audiences for the site. This is best conducted fairly early in the development process while changes are relatively more
Social Change Online Rebuilds SES Website
The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has engaged Social Change Online to redevelop their website. The SES is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community and is made up almost entirely of volunteers. This redevelopment follows on from a successful requirements gathering and analysis phase undertaken by Social Change Online. The SES wanted an information-rich new site which would comply with government standards for web design and accessibility, provide improved appearance and usability, together with a more sophisticated content management system. more
Social Change Online Wins National Oceans Portal Contract
In May 2005, Social Change Online was selected by the Department of the Environment and Heritage (National Oceans Office) of Australia, to design and develop an Oceans Portal application. Government and private agencies hold and maintain a wealth of data about the marine environment, however there has never been one central way to discover, access or combine the data. Such capability is critical, for both operational efficiencies and to support the goals of integrated marine planning. more
